The Judge

‘The Judge’ is named after Joanne’s (nee Marshall) late grandfather The Honorable John Marshall who was judge of South Australia’s liquor licensing court, juvenile court and the federal family court of Australia. John was an avid lover of Eden Valley Rieslings and would have ‘judged’ this a superior wine.

Tasting Notes

This wine, sourced from premium vineyards in Eden Valley, has lifted aromas of cherry blossom, lemon sherbet and hints of freshly squeezed lime juice. The palate is s bright and lively bursting with lemon, lime and sherbet with a touch of musk. Fine and mineral like acidity focuses the fruit providing amazing length and intensity. Perfect drinking now or can be or aged to perfection over the next 5-10 years.

Vintage Conditions

The 2015 harvest got off to a good start, with 2 inches of rain in early January. This set the vines up nicely for the ripening period.  The Riesling vines canopy held up through the warm days of February, with just a touch of extra irrigation required through Feb.  No heatwave conditions meant we have good yields, and some of the best quality fruit we’ve seen in a few years.

Vineyard Region

Angaston, Eden Valley is recognised as one of Australia’s premium areas for Riesling. It is a cool climate region nestled between 400 and 600 metres in the Barossa Range, and is part of the Mount Lofty Ranges. Cool with medium rainfall and warm to hot summers, however the vineyard lies in a secluded valley and consequently ripens much later than surrounding areas. This vineyard produces Rieslings with pristine quality reflected in their minerality, citrus fruit & spiciness, holding great finesse particularly as they age
