2020 'The Founder' Barossa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

'The Founder’ is named after 1st generation, William John Seabrook, (fondly known as W.J.). W.J. was born into a family of builders in Tasmania but his thirst for wine drew him to Victoria. Here he worked under the guidance of ‘Greig and Murray’ where he learnt his craft as a wine merchant. Over a short period of time, W.J. absorbed all the knowledge he needed and in 1878, began his own business W.J. Seabrook & Son, which remained open for four generations and close to 100 years.

Dark, rich, and concentrated, this Cabernet Sauvignon leaps out of the glass with bright aromas of mulberries and blackberries, along with hints of cedar, spice and dried tobacco leaf. Packed with dark fruit characters, aniseed and liquorice notes, the palate delivers wave upon wave of flavour, balanced with a soft acidity and an elegant and tactile structure. A subtle oak profile and fruit texture give this estate-grown Cabernet a soft, silky finish with astonishing length.

The Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from our very own ‘Home Block’ estate vineyard, on the Eastern Ridge of the Barossa Valley. The rows are orientated north south and the vineyard captures most of the afternoon sun. The shallow soils consist of innocuous clay and loams over white non-reactive clays. This coupled with the orientation and aspect, allow perfect conditions for early ripening.
